The Blended Diet Family Recipe Book – 75 Tube Feeding Recipes

Preparing blended meals for tube feeding can involve a great deal of planning. Finding practical recipes can also be difficult.

The Blended Diet Family Recipe Book by Kelly Kent brings together 75 recipes developed through years of preparing blended feeds at home.

Kelly created the book after preparing meals for her tube-fed son, Mason. She wanted to share the recipes and practical knowledge her family had built up.

The result is a colourful, practical resource for families using blended diets.

Practical Recipes for Everyday Tube Feeding

Kelly developed her recipes while caring for her son Mason. She wanted to make preparing blended feeds more manageable for families.

The book includes practical advice on using affordable ingredients, preparing food in batches and storing meals.

Kelly also explains how soaking seeds, steaming vegetables and using softer ingredients can make blending easier. Families do not necessarily need an expensive blender to prepare meals.

Each recipe includes allergy guidance and notes about reflux, helping readers identify information relevant to their feeding plans.

Helping Family Members and Carers Prepare Blended Feeds

Preparing tube feeds often involves several people, including parents, personal assistants and respite carers.

Kelly designed her book so families could share written recipes and preparation information with others involved in feeding.

This can help carers follow established routines and reduce the amount of information parents need to explain repeatedly.

What’s Inside the Blended Diet Recipe Book?

High-Calorie, Low-Volume Recipes

Some children need meals that provide more energy in smaller quantities.

The book includes high-calorie, low-volume recipes, including 100ml calorie-shot ideas.

These provide recipe inspiration for families managing feed volumes within an established feeding plan.

Recipes With Different Nutritional Aims

The 75 recipes include blends using ingredients that provide important nutrients, including:

  • Iron
  • Protein
  • Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Vitamins
  • Antioxidants

Kelly also includes recipes developed with digestive concerns in mind, including reflux, constipation and bloating.

Other sections offer ideas for hydration and meals during recovery from illness.

Practical Advice From a Parent Carer

Kelly shares what she has learned from preparing blended feeds for Mason.

The book covers everyday subjects such as choosing ingredients, preparing meals and keeping useful foods in the cupboard.

Many recipes are suitable for batch preparation and storage.

This can help families organise meals and share preparation tasks between carers.

Having spent years caring for our own tube-fed son, I know how useful practical advice from other parent carers can be. – Shop Manager, Duncan Edwards

About the Author – Kelly Kent

Kelly Kent is a parent carer and creator of The Blended Diet Family.

Her son Mason receives tube feeds, and Kelly has spent years developing recipes for him.

After discovering that Mason had an iron deficiency, she began paying closer attention to the nutrients in his meals.

She also found that many existing resources focused on technical feeding information.

Kelly wanted something more practical: a recipe book written by a parent who regularly prepared blended feeds.

Her experience led to this collection of 75 recipes.

Why Disability Horizons Shop Stocks This Book

At Disability Horizons Shop, we support products and resources developed by people with direct experience of disability and caring.

Kelly’s book fits that approach.

She identified a gap in the resources available to families and used her own experience to create something useful.

Our own family has experience of tube feeding. My son was tube-fed for many years, and I would have welcomed a resource like this.

We are pleased to support Kelly and make her book available to more families.
